Lot 34, Parish of Carroll (578)

Note 1: This Lot and Lots 33 and 35 were applied for by Jean Gustave RENATEAU under the 8th clause of the Crown Lands Alienation Act of 1861 as an "Improvement Purchase" vide I.P.69:142 Ms. The improvements on this Lot consisted of a House, Engine (Battery) and Dam, no monetary value known. The Gold Commissioner raised an objection to this application and it was refused on the 25th May 1869. The Crown Plan W.977-1527 is annotated with "Not to be sold see Gold Commissioners Report" (undated). (578)
Note 2: This was the site of the Victoria Battery in 1860 which was subscribed to by the Miners. It was later known as Reateau's Battery and later as Roberts Battery in the 1890s. (653)
