Bark Church of England Church

Location: Lot 2 Section 16 Mudgee Rd (1877 Map)
Lot 2 Section 16 Steel St (1892 Map)
My Comment: This Church was established in 1854, well before the Town was surveyed in 1859 and a formal layout of Sts and Sections decided upon. This image was taken around 1872/3 and shows in the bottom right corner the eroded gutter of Steele St which ran along the western boundary of Section 16. Surveyors involved in the production of the early town plans of 1859 provided a clue to the Church and fence alignment in the existing General Cemetery by drawing on the 1859 maps the position of the original Church and fence in Lot 2 of Section 16. Other clues to the original church and fence position and alignment are found in some of the images of graves whose location has been identified, other factors are the alignment of the graves within the original fence line which differ from those which appeared at a later date outside the original fence line and the interments that took place on the site of the original Church after it was dismantled circa 1873.
