Depending on the time the image was taken it could have still been in the ownership of Mrs. Beard. The Hotel was sold on the 25 Jun 1872. The caption "Henry Richardson's Hotel" is incorrect, a sign on the wall reads "Henry Richardson Solicitor", he had an office in the building. He had also bought shares in a mining company and indicated his address as Mrs Beards Hotel, Tambaroora.
Reference has been made in the past that the existing fireplace and chimney on Lot 1 was the southern Chimney of the Railway/Hargraves Hotel, the length of the Hotel was approximately 54 feet which would make it approximately 50 feet short of where the chimney is now, it is more likely that this fireplace and chimney is from the building next door on the same Lot, the Railway Stores, otherwise known as Mrs. Beards Store. Even though the brick work does not match known images for either chimney, this could have been replaced in its lifetime. The building on the left is the Railway Stores otherwise known as Mrs. Beards Store, also on Lot 1. () |
