View over Chinatown looking south c.1890's / 1900's

Location: Chinatown
My Comment:
1. The image has been taken to the right of the one taken in the 1870's, determining the time of capture would be an asset.
2. The bell tower on St Saviours Church has gone and been replaced by a timber frame one in front of the church.
3. Chinatown still exists in part, including the Joss House, the chinese general store has gone.
4. The produce store, Royal Hotel, saddlery, and the vast majority of bark huts are all gone.
5. Tambaroora Inn has had a completely new roof.
6. Nearly all the roofs in the town are now CGI.
7. The de-forestation has changed the scenery even more then in the 1870's image, most of the vegetation seen in the image is young suckers re-generating.
8. The gully running left to right across Mudgee Rd is far more pronounced.
9. The red brick building situated very close to where the stone footings still are on Mudgee Rd is still standing, this building was built by Harriet Beard shortly prior to her departure from Tambaroora around 1872/3. The building was built to be a General Store and also was occupied by the Post Office at a later date.
10. There does not appear to be any persons or horse drawn vehicular activity seen in the entire image, only two stock are seen grazing in the centre right of image.
11. If this image has been taken around the 1890's and there appears to very little activity it begs the question why land sales were being made just to the east and north of Saint Saviours Church around this time and a new 10 acre general cemetery surveyed in 1897 to the west of the town for future use. Note: The image has been taken from the western side of Mudgee Rd on the northern boundary of the town looking south.
